Every Christmas, my mother places an Advent wreath on a stand next to the TV to help us remind the true meaning of Christmas.

This particular wreath had a wire base and it is made up of a metal circle with four glass votive holders. She would place evergreen boughs and secure them to the wire base and place votive candles in the holders. My mom had three white candles and a pink one which she would light during the third week of the Advent. This was done to symbolize the that the time for the Savior was approaching. The candles were lit one for each week and were blown out before going to bed.

When I was living on my own for the first time, I looked for a wreath just like we had at home. There were wreathes that you could purchase in the stores; however most of them had artificial greens. A friend of mine suggested making my own wreath out of evergreen bough and placing votive candles in holders inside the ring.

It was perfect. Just like when I was a child. I placed my new wreath in the living room as a center piece. And whenever friends and family come to visit, they would ask me where I bought my wreath and I would just smile.
